Guide · work surface

Choose a folding workbench by dimensions, not star ratings.

A useful product sheet should tell you where the bench works, how it opens and where it disappears afterwards.

The five measurements that matter

  1. Width, depth and height in the working position.
  2. Stored footprint, including handles and protrusions.
  3. Clearance needed to unfold it.
  4. Maximum load under the manufacturer’s stated conditions.
  5. The bench’s own weight if you will move it often.

Maximum load alone does not describe resistance to sideways forces, impacts or a long workpiece hanging beyond the top. It also does not turn every portable bench into a safe machine stand.

Compare states, not only products

Treat every model as two rectangles: open and stored. A 700 mm worktop may be easy to use but awkward to store if the folded depth is not published. Doorways, radiators and the arc of the folding legs also matter.

If a manufacturer does not publish an essential dimension, mark the comparison as incomplete. A visible gap is more useful than a silent estimate.

Transparency: EncajaTaller currently compares published specifications. We do not claim first-hand stability, durability or clamping performance unless a future test is explicitly documented.

Buying comes last

Set the maximum open and stored footprint first. Then compare compatible options, and only afterwards check current price and availability.
